Itefa/Isefa/Orisa Initiation
ISEFA: First Hand of Ifà
During this ritual one receives their 1st Ifa Shrine(Orisa Orunmila). In addition to receiving Ise’fa or Hand of Ifa, one will receive an Odu & a reading of that Odu that will give very important information and guidance. Receiving Isefa signifies a commitment to the path of Ifá and initiates the individual into the community of Ifá practitioners. It marks the beginning of their formal training and study of Ifá principles, rituals, and spiritual practices. Additionally, it symbolizes a deeper connection to the Orisas and the spiritual realm, as well as a responsibility to uphold the traditions and values of Ifá in Yorubaland and the West African diaspora.
ITEFA: Initiation to Orisa Orunmila
Itefa is a process recommended by Olodumare because Ifa initiation will give you a blueprint of your life and what your Ori(destiny)has in store for you. Only Orisa Orunmila can provide what our Ori or destiny wants for us. During the initiation, the initiate will undergo spiritual cleansing, receive sacred objects, learn prayers and chants, and make commitments to uphold the traditions and ethics of Ifá. The initiation marks a significant spiritual and social transition for the individual, as they take on new responsibilities and obligations within the Ifá priesthood. It is revered in Yorubaland and the West African diaspora as a sacred rite of passage.
Orisa Initiation
Orisa initiation is a deeply significant and transformative experience for the initiate, marking their formal entry into the specific Orisa priesthood and their deeper connection to the Orisas and the spiritual realm. It is considered a sacred rite of passage within the Yorubaland and the West African diaspora. This initiation symbolizes spiritual rebirth, empowerment, and a lifelong dedication to the service of the Orisas and the community.
